I began by creating my "ocean" background using the Stampendous DWLL477 stencil with two super thick embossing powders, Frosted Lawn and Bluebird. I attached a piece of Super Adhesive Sheet to a piece of white cardstock. I removed the protective sheet and laid the stencil, which had been amply applied with Versamark (to prevent it sticking to the adhesive) down on to the sticky surface. This was held in place with some artist's tape.
Frosted Lawn was then applied to the exposed sticky surface of the stencil and burnished in using the piece of protective backing that had been released from the super adhesive sheet. This helps keep fingers from being hurt from the sharp metal stencil.
Any excess embossing powder was brushed off with a glitter brush and then returned to the jar. I remove the artist's tape carefully and peeled the piece gently from the stencil. Bluebird embossing powder was then applied to the remaining sticky surface. Again I used the protective backing sheet to burnish in the Bluebird. Excess powder was again returned to jar. I heat set the piece from below, by clamping my heat tool in my drawer.
The mermaid was stamped in Hybrid Ink Metro Grey whilst in the Stamp Positioner. Once I had colored her with Copics, I returned her to the Stamp Positioner and stamped her again with Versamark and heat embossed with Clear Detail, giving a nice crisp outline to the image.
I decided to have my mermaid sit on a rock, so I cut her out without the water around her. For my rock, I cut a piece of grey cardstock and covered it with Versamark from the refill bottle. Super Thick Oil Slick was then applied to the fluid and again heat set from below. I added some Super Thick White on top of the embossed Oil Slick, to make it look like sea foam.
She was attached to the rock using Tear-ific Tape. The sentiment from the same set was stamped in Versamark, heat embossed with Satin Velvet and die cut with a Cheery Lynn Fishtail Banner die. A piece of blue netting was attached to the sentiment with a blue brad. The card was then assembled. Mirror cardstock Cobalt Velour was layered to a white card base. The background with attached sentiment was then layered on top and the mermaid and her rock were mounted with mounting tape.
That finishes my card for today. I hope I have inspired you to check out these fun Super Thick powders? Below you can find a list of the products used on my card today. You can use my code: ShonaDT10 at the check out to receive an extra 10% off anything in the Sparkle N Sprinkle store.
